My research draws on organization theory and economic sociology to study individual outcomes like attainment, entrepreneurship, and mobility; organizational behaviors like hiring, investing, pricing, and staffing; and organizational outcomes like founding, change, and survival.  


My courses cover two primary topics: (1) strategic leadership and (2) social networks. Strategy courses focus on creating and sustaining advantages in highly competitive markets and industries.  Networks courses focus on how social structures shape incentives and behaviors, empowering those who understand social networks and constraining those who do not.


I received a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business; a MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business; and a BA in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University.  Prior to entering academia, I worked at Classified Ventures, Intel, and Verizon Communications.
